| Post subject: | Hello, from NW Vic. Aust. |
I live on 5 acres which was once very bare but over the years have planted & nurtured with loving care trees & shrubs, too many to count along with my hubby, who I couldn't leave out have created an oasis, even during a drought. Over the years we've had animals come and go birds such as ducks, geese & turkeys & peacocks that put on a great show A donkey once grazed on the grass around our dams and a cow for a while and some sheep, but no lambs Have had rabbits & guinea pigs who just want to eat and quail & walking fish for a bit of a treat. Now we have goats to eat the grass but when they escape they're a pain in the **s* Our chooks give us eggs and roam free all day but the budgies in their cage, have to stay except for one who can come out to play Our dog thinks she's the most important of all even when she's naughty and won't come when we call We also have an assortment of fish some just look pretty, and some for the dish but my favorite of all are my Murray Catfish We are now into Aquaponics it's addictive for sure have a few systems and planning some more! I love living here, but it can be a pain Summer is too hot and we don't get enough rain But I love my 'backyard' it really is great Well that's all from me now there's work to do that can't wait! |

Welcome Tristrin Great poem - well done - Faye, you have some competition. Your place sounds great and you have a huge menagerie that must keep you pretty busy. No doubt you'll be putting some piccies up soon |

Everyone seems to live on 5 acres. It was getting to me a bit. I can throw rocks at my back fence. But it does echo of an idea I've had for a while now. Buying a bit of land in a good area and planting a crap load of trees and setting up a watering system. Dump a load of mulch in large piles etc. Then if the shit hits the fan or I retire I can build a house and have trees that have been growing for 20years. Welcome by the way. |

Thanks for the comments. I should point out that we dont still have all the animals mentioned in my poem. But they are what we have had over the past 27 years. The donkey, sheep, rabbits, guinea pigs, quail, walking fish, ducks, geese & turkeys have all passed on, either by natural death or by foxes, dogs or some became meals I will post a few photo's here and will also write a description of our garden and post some photos in the Members Garden section. and don't give up Faye.....it was you who inspired me to write my poem |

That footbridge is still waiting to be finished! It was supposed to be finished with a decorative layer of cement to make it look like a timber bridge, like on this table setting below. The guy who did the table setting has left the district, so i think i will just paint the bridge green or brown, any suggestions? It's been like that for about 15 years so there's no hurry!
