Hi Yall,
Skipd here.
I have been over at BYAP forum for a while and had to check this out.
This site Looks great, just as the BYAP one does.
I see quite a few familiar faces here.
We have a 780m sq. block in Bassendean, a couple of chooks, a few fruit trees and the Aquaponics system of course.
We are planning to do quite a large extension to the existing house, based on solar passive design principles. We have planning approval but just need to go to bank.
We have grown veges in the past in the dirt with some success but I am totally loving the AP system.
On our second lot of chooks as the first lot got killed by foxes
We now have a house for them that we lock them in every night.
Anyhoo thats my bit, I have a question but will post it up in the appropriate thread or what ever.
Loving the holidays, off to Metams pool again this morning, perfect beach for kids.
Laters.

Welcome to the other side of the garden where even the smilies are green. :joy:

Welcome Skipd
I have a question; where is Bassendean?
A good idea on this forum is to put in a location and climate zone, through the "User Control Panel"
and we all love photos :thumb:

A couple of pics of the yard and chicken run.
Have 3 chooks, two brown ones are still young and havnt started laying yet. White 1 gives 1 egg/day no fail.
Havnt bought food for them yet, had about 3 months. Just give them scraps in the morning then let them out in the arvo to scratch around. They jump in their little house when the sun goes down and then I just shut the door and also fold up ramp so they are safe from the foxes.
The box is insulated walls and roof so they are pretty comfy in there.
The tree is a Manchurian pear, no fruit and is deciduious, our backyard faces west so we cop it in the afternoons in summer. have planted two of them to give us some reprieve and they are charging along. Grape vine gives them some shade as well.
I intend to upgrade the run. I need something to keep all the local birdlife out (Ibis's) as they get in and eat all the food. Have run 80lb fishing line criss crossing across top but the buggers still get in. The first time one got in I thought , right your gonna get a lesson and just popped out , :swing: and it got away, not that I would have harmed it, much. :bat:

Hey Skipd...... Nice chooks... I'm starting to feel the need to get some more, maybe when the hot weather goes.

We love em, the kids 2y and 4y are still a bit wary of them. certainly adds another dimension to the backyard.
they are looking a bit hacked after my bodgy wing clipping attempt. I clipped both sides and then thought thats no good as they just wont have as much lift or thrust or whatever.
Wont do it again as they look much better in tact and plus I have to build a proper encloser to keep other birds out as they keep stealing food and now the bloody crows actually go into the little house and steal the eggs :anger:
