Hi all, Not sure why it took us so long to notice this forum....but here we are! We have been interested in living as sustainably as possible for some time, and this year finally managed to go solar. We have 26 panels, which still doesn't supply all our high electricity needs as we are not on mains water-all our water needs to be pumped (from the ground and then again into the house). At least we are doing what we can for the environment though! We live on 10 acres, and have two orchards, herb garden and a large veggie garden. We also have hens (Blue Australorps), ducks (Pekin), sheep (Wiltshires and Wiltipolls), guinea fowl, rabbits (Giants) and fish in the swimming pool (barramundi in summer and trout in winter). We also grow veggies in the pool on floating rafts. Our link to our BYAP system with photos is below. We also do our best for the native wildlife and plants on our property- see our facebook page for photos! Our latest is developing a 'snake lake'! We made this to entice the tiger snakes away from the house-we have had several checking out the frogs in the ponds near the house and felt this was a good compromise! We look forward to sharing ideas! |

Howdy Peasants, good to see you here... Wow, you have 10 acres, that's more than your fair share... |

10 acres keeps us busy!!! Good fun though. By the way, we can't figure out how to get our links to the BYAP and our facebook page to work directly like yours does when you just click on it...can you help? We have them as part of our signature, is that the problem? Thanks |

No Faye, we haven't harvested the barra as yet, apart from the odd one-it has been too hot for trout and the barra were still happy....up until the last few days! The temp of the water has certainly cooled down now, so they are less interested in eating. Probably harvest on the weekend! We ate the last of the trout from winter last weekend...so ready to stock up again! |
