Hey Guys, I really enjoyed my time in Australia and I found the BYAP very good, so I went onto the BYF forum as well, to see how I can learn and help. A little about me: I am from Germany and I just love gardening, as I consider what backyard farming is, as it doesn't have the destructional undertone as agriculture has. (Don't get me wrong I am a farmer myself and I own about 600ha of prime agricultural land in Germany.) I am 25 and male, so that's it. I have to do my masters degree (agriculture) so I have my father in charge of the farm again, and maintain only a small experimental garden (no aquaponic either): Attachment: ByF1.jpg [ 62.86 KiB | Viewed 5697 times ] There are one Capsicum annum (the big one) Spanish pepper two Capsicum baccatum (smaller ones) Peruan pepper nine Phoenix dactylifera date palm (for fun) (The rose is not yet identified.) I will plant four coffee trees, some melons, bananas and olive trees as well. (I like to go exotic! :-)) Our normal garden, which is just a flower garden would look like this (look down), as we haven't had much time this year to get the veggie garden going. Welcome Perpetuitas! Looks like a nice place - what does the farm produce? |

Hey, we are doing wheat and OSR (Oil seed rape; canola, depends what you call it) and haylage (a bit drier silage). We did a bit on the ecological site on the farm as we planted 11km of hedgerows and and 100ha (250acres) of meadows, which is part of a renaturalization scheme. We have tried to diversify with corn (terrible on the soil quality) lupines (won't grow yet). (I have written two more comments, but they haven't been approved yet. Can someone handle that?) |
