I've only ever grown cuttings from geraniums, tried to take cuttings from my roses but not been successful in past years and grown a castor oil plant to maturity. I watched it flower but I was shocked. I was not impressed with that flower at all !! You'd think that after such a long time, the flower would prove to be a big reward but it wasn't pretty at all, didn't even have colour!!

This year, I still have my fingers crossed for the rose cuttings I took. I've learned more in a short space of time about gardening this year than I have ever done! Thanks to YouTube. I have a growing list of plants that I hope will be flourishing in the near future. Some are seedlings and some are cuttings.

I have seen a lovely bush on a abandoned property ... it's flowers had so much fragrance that it carried through the air for quite a distance ... then I later saw the same variety growing like a weed near a lampost!! I have taken a cutting and I am keeping my fingers crossed for that too. I hope it will survive and flourish. I found an image on google images and I think I'm talking about lilac and I think it is also called davidii ... apparently it has been declared a weed in Australia and some parts of USA ... such a pity ... I think it does look like a weed when it is just one stalk on it's own but as it gets older and turns into a bush, it is absolutely breathtaking. It offers privacy better than a hedge because I would never prune it. Also, the fragrance is unforgettable. I have 2 cats and I was bringing home flowers picked from the bush on the abandoned property for my cats because I thought they would really appreciate it and they did!! One of them was using it as a pillow for days. He began to smell of it !!! lol !! and he missed it when I threw away the squashed and dried remains. They have no idea that with luck, they will be able to enjoy their own soon !!

I am very interested in getting an aquaponics system up and running as soon as possible. I have much to learn. My system will be indoors and I hope it will be problem free if I'm well informed enough. I am worrying about the pesticides which I have used on the plants I bought which I discovered to be infected when I got home. Apparently, fish are adversely affected by chemicals. So I have a lot of solutions to search for. Also, this year is the first time I've sown seeds and I have my fingers crossed for them too. If everything survives I will have more than 20 different kinds of plants and I haven't even thought about veggies yet!! or fruit !!! It will be very painful if that number dwindles down instead of growing :( I need lots of help from lots of friends to see me through this project. Even fish will be a completely new experience for me. I have only seen them on a few occasions in other people's fish tanks as pets. I have to learn everything about them before I can even think of being responsible for their health !!! It's going to be a very interesting and exciting journey :)
