Machines that waste water

I just want to let people know about my washing machine that can waste a lot of water. It's a 'Samsung SW80USP with Silver Nano Technology'. Sounds very scientific, but when the load becomes un-balanced it will refill with water to try to correct it. Other machines i have had beep for attention when they cant re-balance the load. But this machine just constantly refills. There have been times I've been outside for a few hours and come back in to find my machine still going! :bad:

Maybe others could add machines here that they also believe are water wasters, or not good enviromentally for other reasons.

Man, that's a pretty poor design aspect of the machine... Mine just makes lots of noise and bounces around the laundry when things are unbalanced. I must admit, I didn't buy the most efficient machine. After going through multiple second hand washing machines in a fairly short period of time, I bought with one thing in mind, reliability. A solid old style machine, made in USA.

I've got an ice machine that I hooked up in the shop. Wanted to see it working plus there was wild turkey that needed ice. So I put the drain into a tub instead of plumbing it in. Man those things flush a lot of water. It was dumping a tub of water per cycle. Asked the place I got them from and they had no idea. Cos they are meant to be put in by a trades person :hello:

no one knew how much water goes down the drain. And this is water that is pre-filtered and chilled.

Man... Is that a commercial type machine or a bit like some people have built into their fridges? I really don;t understand the ice dispenser in the front of the fridge. Does anyone have one? Can you tell me if the novelty wears off or do you continue to use it?

what about the chilled water from the fridge door - is that also a novelty? Personally I hate having jugs of water in the fridge and filling them up all the time, but the cost of a new fridge forbids me from hating it.

Fridge with water dispenser in door was one of the best purchases I ever made(besides BYAP system!!)Container holds 3 litres inside fridge and saves having to open fridge up all the time to get cold water. It makes you drink more because of ease.( I have thought of putting wine in it but it does warn against anything but water. Boo!)

Its a commercial machine. Makes dense ice thats ment to cool a drink faster.

Earthbound, I have had a fridge with ice & cold water dispenser for the last 4 years.
The novelty doesnt wear off. Its great and I'd be lost without it. Crushed ice or blocks of ice in every drink. Never breaks down. If you are going to a bbq you can put a plastic bag under it and fill it with ice because the fridge will replace it overnight. Eating outside - just fill a wine bucket with ice - no probs. They need to be plumbed in though but its only a very thin diameter tube that feeds it, probably only 3mm inside diameter from memory. :thumb:

Mine dispenses chilled water from the door (novelty hasn't worn off in the two months we've been using it and can't see it happening anytime soon). The ice is made down in the freezer and drops into a tray, ready to use. Preferred this design as we didn't want the icemaker taking up all the space in the door. It's a F & P.

I have a 4 stage Reverse Osmosis setup that I bought from ebay and that would waste 1 litre of water to every 2 that came out the other end, and if your filters were dirty then even more. I used to plumb the waste water to the washing machine so we could used the waste water for washing. Since then I have modified the RO, taken out 2 of the passes and pretty much just turned it into a Single Pass 2 Stage Filter, as the water where I am now is bore and is pretty good already. So now it doesnt waste any water.

Tristrin that machine sounds crap using that much water ours is a F & P and does the same as joels for a while then just stops and beeps til you start it again

Not quite a machine, but I have a 12 y/o daughter that enjoys a 15 minute shower twice a day. :bat:

We have a front loader washing machine and have never had a problem with unbalanced loads and it only uses a small amount of water. The downside is it takes a long time to wash a load.

My front loader takes about two hours per load. Sometimes I get busy and can forget I've got washing to hang out so it can take a whole day to get one load dry. I like being able to have a bench top over the washer and dryer, tho.

That machine stopped working about 4 weeks ago and we are still waiting for the new part to come, thankfully it's still under warranty, but I will never buy another one again. As well as wasting water, the cleaning/filtering system is hopeless and some clothes come out dirtier than they went in :confused:

Our previous 2 machines were F & P and they did a great job, but the last one nearly caught fire when water leaked into the electronics :shock:

Luckily we were home at the time. For now I'm having to cart washing into town to use another machine so hope ours is fixed soon, but down the track I'm not sure what our next machine will be.
