Hi there,

Just as a bit of a poll/research topic - how much did you pay for your plot (with size stated as well as access to water and electricity).

I'm just interested because, here in Chile, the wife and I are looking into plots for the future.

An example here - a 100mt x 100mt plot (1ha) with water and electricity access. 20 to 30 km from the city outskirts is, in AUD, $31,000.

On the other hand. Further north, on the coast, very desert like terrain. No water or electricity (but virtually no clouds all year round - good for solar and wind power). 100mt x 100mt (1ha) is, in AUD, $10,000.

When we get the money the wife and I would head north and go for a kick ass aquaponic set up on our plot, along with goats and chickens (AP fish being trout from the fisheries down south).

So there you have it - is Chile a cheap place to be? Please let me know.

$15 to $20 per squ meter where I live, depending on soil type, views and water, about 50min from the CBD of a small city.

4 Hectares near town about $300,000ish
40 Hectares 20 minutes drive out about $300,000ish
I'm on a block in town not quite a quarter of an acre pretending I am on a farm.

To true, there is no way I would swap it for a $300,000 block down on the flatlands :yuck: We were actually lucky and got in just before the boom, the block in front of us with the half built house on it sold at the same time for the same price and then resold 12 months later for an extra $100,000 :lol:

“I would head north” Where to exactly Brian, for AP you need water, rainwater.
Took the Panam highway from Valparaiso to La Serena years back, only semidesert to pure desert, very arid. Not many people living there.
Those cactus fences/hedges they use do look quite forbidding :shock2: .
If close to coast and you get a good spot you could harvest the morning fog bud I wouldn’t count on that.

If I had to live in Chile, I would head south, Valdivia or Puerto Montt, very nice and unlike Santiago or Valparaiso, it’s very safe there.

Steve,

The idea is for my AP project to be used more in the arid areas - teaching Chileans how to manage water properly and get amazing results in drought ridden areas.

Down south is green, wet and fertile, however it has a limited growing season where as north of Santiago is an all year round growing season.

Land is also cheaper in the north and as for the crime, well I've lived here in Santiago for three years now and have had no problems. I'm not saying there is no crime but it is avoidable.

my first plot here 4.29 acres with the house and services was $54,000 but it was in "fubar" condition and took $16,000 worth of repairs to bring it back into repair. oh and 3 years what ever thats worth :wink:
the second plott adjoining my back line was the old plantation home built in 1836 on 2.0 acres it sold for $25,500
so i guess i have around 79k in purchace prices....and 16 years of back aches an blisters

oh hell yea, well worth the blisters. the former owner was given this place as an inheritance and pissed it away in less than 20 years.....sorry bastard never put a dime back into it. now its my job to put the land back as a single plot....two more lots an i'll be broke or done...hahaha
