I like to grow new things. Sometimes its because someone has pointed them out to me or I've run accross a new plant on the internet. Googling unusual fruits and vegetables and selecting to view images is also a good way to find new stuff. While looking at kiwano melon(cos the picture was pretty) I realised its also called African horned cucumber. And I'm sure I have a packet of seeds somewhere. Will be trying the following next. Acerola Cherry - Florida Sweet Lychee Babaco(again as the ckooks killed the last one) Muscadine Grape - Adonis |

Me too, I like experimenting with different stuff to see what grows well in my area rather than stcik to the boring stuff that everybody has that I know will succeed. |

I've seen the African Horned cucumber before in catalogs. Haven't got around to trying it myself though... I'm always wanting to try new things, they aren't always a great success, I wouldn't bother with the brazillian cherry every again, neither the strawberry guava. Have a goji berry bush at home that I got recently, the dried goji fruit I've tried aren't too bad, a bit like sultanas. Dunno how it's going to perform yet, a friends plant has got quite large in just a few months.. |

My new strawberry guavas are loving the sun and heat, and are putting on lots of new growth. I think they will make a nice hedging plant with lush green foliage, not worried about the fruit at this stage. |

Goji berry planted last year from pots doing great, I had already a handful to eat and a few on the drying rack for a try. When still working, a colleague at work gave me few stewed red strawberry guavas to try. With sugar I imagine, very nice, had to plant a bush, also the yellow one and a tropical for a try. Did try few things but didn’t insist with babaco, to finicky, inconsistent here, Acerola Cherry didn’t survive the winter, Grafted Loquat “Nagasakiwase”, had already few fruit last year, much meatier than the common ones. Do not keep long but good for jam, wine and should be very nice dried. Persimmon “Fuju” Red and Yellow Tamarillos, while the yellow one is always full of aphids, none on the red. Cape Plum, flowering and full of nasty thorns but have to see any fruit yet Avocados (2), not fruiting yet Wampee, still very small, flowering for the last two years but not setting fruit and not growing. Will pot it in winter.
