Can anyone recommend a really good fruit and nut tree nursery in Perth or surrounds.

Daleys are ok if you are in an area somewhere closer that W.A.. I made a big online order at Daleys but then had to cancel it when I found that the packaging and freight over doubled the price.. :run:

Fizzy, how were the prices of fruit trees at the auction, were they fairly cheap? I will get up to Tass1 one of these days, I'd be keen to go to one of their auctions too..

I bought a stack of fruit trees at Dawsons garden centre in Forrestfield, not the cheapest but a reasonable variety at this time of year compared with some places..
Faye asked this exact question of Peter Coppin a few months back and this is his answer..

There are very few nurseries in WA who do both wholesale and retail. David's Garden Centre (Dundas Rd, Maida Vale) is also a commercial citrus nursery, so is good for citrus. Olea Nurseries (Seventh Rd, Manjimup) is our largest production nursery who grow a large range of fruit & nuts, but there is usually a minimum tree number. Apart from citrus, most trees are brought in from the eastern states.

Better retail nurseries include:
Wandilla Garden Centre (Welshpool Rd, Wattle Grove)
Herbs-R-Us (Wanneroo Markets)
Tass1 (Great Northern Hwy, Middle Swan)
Floraland Nursery (Great Eastern Hwy, Mahogony Creek)
Dawson's Garden Centres (mainly the Forrestfield outlet)

Hey good response EB.
The sessions I have been to with Peter have been Ag Dept sponsored ones where he wasn't allowed to name names, so it is good to hear which ones he recommends.

I had some good experiences with wandilla about 5 years back but last time I was there, they didn't seem to have the same focus. It could have just been the time of the year that I was there, or perhaps I knew more about what I was looking for in a tree structure and kept finding trees with flaws.

Have you purchased anything from Olea before?

Not as yet, we're waiting on their wholesale price list to come through for this coming seasons trees.

does that mean that you guys can buy from them at wholesale or is that a price list is available for retail as well?

I am currently planning a small orchard, so I will have a number of trees when I place an order.

I think they will sell to people buying for an orchard, I guess it depends on numbers, they are not "retail" as such, but I'm pretty sure my folks bought bare rooted trees from them when they planted their orchard of about 40 odd trees.

On the way to Toodyay yesterday, on aquaponics business I saw a sign advertising strawberries and so decided to stimulate the local economy on our return back down Toodyay road.
As we went in through the gate I thought I saw a nursery, ah yes it was a nursery and it had fruit trees. :clap: I got a very large white mulberry and a well established almond, self pollinating each @ $45-00, pretty good I thought and very healthy looking plants.
Then after buying them I found a good looking banana, bigger than the one I got from Bunnings and passionfruit, I was told that it has larger fruit and sweeter than Nelly Kelly,(which I was told is now on the declared weed list, oops) :confused:
So to anyone that is heading to Toodyay from the Roe Hwy it is the first or 2nd street on the left. Called Jane Brook nursery, very new- clean looking and they will get more fruit tree stock in around June. I am sure it is one to watch develop.

Hey, I am just around the corner - it feels kind of strange being considered as part of a "local economy"... I am a little further from the city than JB Nursery but still consider myself part of perth.

I know the one you are talking about, but haven't been in there since xmas. I hadn't planned on going in as I have not liked their strawberries in the past but will give them another go.

I think I was misunderstood, FJ. I also consider you to be part of Perth otherwise I would have classed Jane Brook as the rural economy! Does that make sense. :wink:

Not misunderstood - me just being funny would have added a smiley but using quick reply.

Get heaps from work colleagues about having to pack a tent when coming to my place because it is so far - it isn't like it is a southern suburb of geraldton :). It just feels like a long way because in the east we don't get the fancy "freeways" that the coastal suburbs get! But we can grow tahitian limes without problems!
