A wiki quote. "which way soever they be dressed and eaten, they stir and cause a filthy loathsome stinking wind within the body, thereby causing the belly to be pained and tormented, and are a meat more fit for swine than men." Sounds cool. I want to try one. |

Yep, thems the ones.... Have a friend that refuses to eat them because of the gas he gets. I love them, very sweet and don;t bother my guts... Well not any more than normal. |

Just to add to this thread, Joel certainly must know more about those artichokes that you'll find in the Wiki. Got fruit & nuts by Sussana Lyle half price from a book discount store and after reading it I had to get her second volume DISCOVERING vegetables, herbs & spices. Planted them after reading about them in the second book. As a school kid, I used to go help plant them along the forest tree lines and forest clearings for the deers to survive on during the winter but it was never used for domestic or domestic animal consumption. Apparently, apart of their health giving properties, even fizzy (fermented) drinks, vine and liqueurs can be made out of it. |

Everyone's guts are different.. I've got an old book on rearing pigs and the artichokes were an essential part of their recommendations for successful pig growing. There were 4 crops they suggested planting for year round self serving pig feed, pumpkins, jerusalem artichokes, and two others I can't remember ATM.. |

G'Day Joel, I bought a couple of Jerusalem artichokes from Tass1 on the weekend. $4 each. You should be able to find some a bit closer to your end of town though. Cheers Dennis |
