I'm looking for some comfrey Symphytum officinale and arrowroot. I've wanted them for ages. Comfrey for the compost and chooks and arrowroot for the roots. Does anyone have any?

Cheers

You can have some comfrey cutting but the Arrowroot is not big enough to devide yet. I got mine from http://www.greenharvest.com.au

Nup - to me it would only be starvation food (ie I will eat it if for some reason I have nothing else to eat ). You Duff?

Was using it to replace cana as a mulch and border plant. The thinking was if I was going to grow a cana it might as well be the edible one. I will give one a try soon. I'd hate to have something growing for 10 years only to find out it tasted great. :thumb:

Yeah, Duff - if you could just arrange it so that you die in front of the one that killed you and get someone to send us a piccy, we'll be grateful for the info - and of course, we love piccies :hello:

Don't think you are going to be real impressed with it. Can be used to make flour, but a fair bit of stuffing around involved.

Thats fine. It's not actually for me anyway. I figured if its edible then my chickens and ducks would love it. It would be a good fodder crop, something that I could grow intensely. Then chop and drop. Then let the chickens in for a good scratch and they'd eat what they wanted etc.

As for the comfrey. That's for me. Haha. Well the compost anyways. I'm over in perth so it would be a bit far to post the arrowroot unfortunately. I'll have to look out for a supplier over here. :)

Yep - arrowroot is great for chop and drop. At the end of winter I pulled up and divided heaps of my arrowroot with the intention of planting in all sorts of places around my yard. I filled 5 chicken pellet sacks with bulbs (bulbs only - I'd cut all the foliage off, so you can imagine how many I had). Unfortunately I ran out of time and ended up leaving them in the bags for months until they just rotted.

A shame, but I still have heaps as I had immediately put a thin border of plants at the back of my veggie patch. These are growing well from the recent rains. Will take a pic and post if I remember.

Careful with the comfrey, it can be hard to get rid of. (not for me though, I'm good at killing plants. :) )

Not too hard here EB - just let it dry out in summer and it rots down on itself.
