Picked up some sweet corn today, later this week I'll be building a new raised bed for them to go in. Have to think about what else I can throw into the bed to keep them company. Maybe some onions and shallots. |

Some gurus suggest waiting until the corn is about a foot high then planting peas so that the corn doubles as a climbing pole for the peas. I haven't tried it, but am keeping it in mind to try one day. |

Plant the corn in a small furrow. Then you can back fill over the second set of roots. Its also a heavy feeder. |

The American natives would grow corn, beans and squash together. The squash grow around on the ground keeping the soil cool acting like a mulch, the beans would grow up the corn stalks and the nitrogen fixing roots would feed the nutrient hungry corn. They called them the "Three Sisters". If you were growing the cucumbers up the corn I would think you might need to keep the fertiliser up to them. |
