Any of you wise people know why my carrot, pictured below, came out of my AP system like that ? I am of course talking about the split, not the hairy root system.

according to the books for dirt grown carrots, cracking is due to irregular watering, especially allowing the ground to dry out too much.

This of cause wouldnt apply to the AP system. you havent cut back the timing of your cycling by any changes.
I know that when we grew them in our system we had a couple that split, at the time we just decided we had left them in too long.

thanks Hopefulls

Nope, the system has been on the same watering regime since I set it up in March. All the other carrots look fine, just happened to notice that one. Curioser and curioser .....

Yep, "by the laugh"

By the end of the month I should have enough to buy the newspaper.

Never had much success with carrots they always failed to get any decent depth to the root growth probably because of my clay based veggie bed soil but I think years of constant soil improvement and a well dug bed have finally paid off, and they tasted very sweet too. :joy:
