Here in Western Australia there's a free service for tree prunings mulch http://mulchnet.com/index.php you can give them your address, then if there's a tree pruner in the area with a full load, and he doesn't have any paid mulch orders to fill, they will drop the mulch off for nothing rather than having to drive to the dump..

Can be a little erratic as to when and if you get your mulch, there's no guarantees, but it's free.... :) They also have a $50 delivery fee you can pay, this makes it more likely that you will get a load quickly, or you can pay for it if you want it guaranteed. $165 for 10cum delivered is pretty damn good...

Ooohhh, just noticed, their website now says Australia wide.. I think all countries should have these services set up, tree pruners should never be taking perfectly good mulch to the dump...

Regestered. I've got a spare block. You can also talk to locals that cut grass. Sometimes you place is a shorter distance than the tip.

Registered. Might have to ask KE if he might like some when or if it gets delivered.

So if you offer to pay the delivery fee and some is delivered, how much mulch can you expect, a full 10m2?

Depends on the size of the mulching truck they have I guess.. Have to see what Faye and Mitch have to say on the matter, I know they have both had a fair few deliveries..

If some guy turns up with half a box trailor I'll just tell him to go jump. Will also have to ask what trees they came from. Some trees you may not want in your garden.

I have had around 14m2 delivered twice for free, now that I am in the swan valley I have had an order in since oct last year and still waiting - I guess I am too far out of the way.

1 of my deliveries was 80% palm tree - doesn't mulch very nicely and you get left with big prickly things. The first delivery was all eucalypt - my nose has never been clearer - it was enjoyable shifting that load.

You get what you get when it is free. I had 18 truck loads delivered to my verge the first year.
Then I had to get a bobcat to spread it. Some of it was palm fronds which made a really course mulch, great for the verge and it is still there 5 years on. I have had to wait longer between loads in recent times cuase everyone knows about it. It does speed things up if you offer to pay about $35-00 delivery fee, or whatever the going rate is.

Probably unlikely to get any free stuff here as I am on the road to nowhere. How do they know where to drop it (ie do they just dump it on the footpath??)

They definately prefer outer suburbs with big spaces to inner city small frontage blocks. Just provide details of where you would like it and cross your fingers.

MulchNet are absolutely fantastic!!! Best idea ever!

We have a driver that just dumps continuously on our verge. Up to two or three times a week. Actually he's the driver that used to deliver to Fayes. :) hehe. Anyways its great, we've probably mulched almost an acre or two in six months. Just by moving the mulch with our tractor and dumping and spreading. Mulching makes a tremendous difference!! Everything is so green and lush.

In terms of suburban blocks, they seem to be alright. My cousin got a load delivered to her place and shes only on 1/4 acre.

Hey Fizzy, you could petition some local tree loppers in your area, give them a ring, tell them that if they ever have a load of mulch they need to get rid of, and they are in your area, then you'll give them a carton for it. Gotta love a a carton economy...

(well I did love the carton economy, but I see some brewer is trying to cash in on the idea with their advertising campaign)
