One of my favourte composting plants. And makes a very strong liquid fertilizer. Has a long tap root that can be cut into 20mm bits, each bit grows a new plant. 17% nitrogen and a heap of potassium. Soak the leaves in water and they break down really quickly. Cos of the deep tap root they can harvest a lot of stuff from the sub soil that most of the vegies can't get. High protein and the chooks love it.

I planted some comfrey in the wrong place, so moved it, but obviously didn't get all the root, so it's now back with a vengeance. My question is how to get rid of that particular plant without creating several more in the same place. I have plenty more near my compost. |

Place a board or black plastic over the plant. It will rot down in on itself. Cos the tap root can go down 3mtr some people use it to break up the soil by growing it then letting it rot down. Also makes a good weed and grass barrier. |

It will also rot down on itself if not supplied any water. I often lose plants during the heat of summer (all rotted to mush). |

Tis a good idea. I must try it in the back corner of my place. Is hard as and really dry. So if I can establish my comfrey up there by supplying it with water, then all I'd need to do is cut off the supply and voila. |
