A great way to label plants is to use wooden clothes pegs. A fine felt tip marker writes well on the flat surface of the wood, You can easily swap them from seedling punnet, to pot, to trellis, branch etc. as the plant grows and you re-pot or transplant. And you can reuse the other side of the peg for a different plant species, then also use them afterwards to peg your clothes.

They were really handy when I grew dozens of tomato varieties.

Haha. Thats a great idea!!! I'll have to try that one. I usually use milk cartons or ice cream containers. I cut them up into strips of plastic about 15cm by 3cm and then use a permament marker to write on them.

Clothes pegs of course are a lot easier. :bash:

Very nice - do you get fruit fly problems with the plums EB ?

No, only birds...

Struggling to get a whole plum unless you pick them fairlyy early.

Or if you can get hand on a printing plate you can get heaps of labels out of it.
Will not take ink but can be permanently embossed with a Biro (and reused)

But your taking the guess work out of it. The long hrs looking at a plant trying to workout if you planted it or its just a weed. :joy:

That's how I know what potato plants look like now. From the many times I've riped one out, only to see the tiny spuds growing from the roots. :cry:

I left a plant for ages thinking it must have been a kang kong plant growing, only to discover that it was a weed. Labeling can be useful, or more to the point, knowing what a plant should look like is useful.

Another easy way is old venetian blinds, sometimes you can find them on the verge.
(Good ol' verge trading) Cut them into suitable lengths and write on them with a permanent marker. Makes heaps, share with a friend or the garden club. Particularly helpful at a bring and buy.
