Given the choice, which would be better for the reservoir media: brickies sand or pea gravel? Is there any reason why pea gravel would be a bad choice?

Thanks in advance!

I have no experience with wicking beds, but there was a thread going maybe on the byap site and I seem to remember reading that the gravel does not wick as well as sand.

Thanks Gazza, I had a feeling that were the case. I can get my hands on some free gravel, but might be worth hunting for sand instead.

I had forgotten about JT's build. They look fantastic!

I think soil works best but given the choice sand is better than gravel

I know F&F uses gravel in all of his with stellar results. I used gravel in mine and it seems to be wicking well but I think my loam is too dense. Im not getting very good growth for some reason. Im going to fluff it up with some cane mulch soon me thinks.
