I have been trialing an idea I found on guerrilla gardening websites, a form of seed bombs. These seed bombs use a mix of seeds and some powdered sheep manure that have been packed in gel capsules. The Gelcap slowly dissolves as it draws in more and more moisture, then the seeds begin germinating and start growing quite well..
The interesting bit about these is that the seeds won't germinate until there is enough water to dissolve the Gelcap. So, if you get a short little shower, it won't do much, it's only when you get enough rain to support the plants growth that the gelcap will dissolve..
Start off with three seed bombs.

One week later you can see the Gelcaps starting to buckle and break open as they dissolve with the water.

Seeds starting to germinate by the end of the second week.

By the end of the third week it's a mass of seedlings taking off...

It's been an interesting experiment and I'm going to play around a bit more with the idea. I have a stack of different native seeds that I'll try as well in the little bombs. I'll try some more of the veggie bombs as well, see if I can get a better light set up and some better pictures of growth over time...
