Hope you don't get any more rainfall for a while... :sad2:

Well we had just managed to get rid of most of the water from January's event and now we are copping it again :(
Some area's around Mildura have had over 200mm in 24 hours! Water vapour from Cyclone Yasi is being drawn down to parts of SA and across Vic & southern NSW.
We have so far managed to keep the water away from our house area, but now the irrigation drains are overflowing and it's still raining, so we will probably be completely swamped again. Well i guess it can't do much more damage than what's already been done!

:joy: :joy: :joy: thankfully the rain eased off just in time and we didn't get completely flooded this time. Still a lot of water to get rid of, but at least the area around our house hasn't been flooded. We have some plans we want to implement to try to control the flooding so hopefully we will get them done before another drenching comes our way. We can’t avoid flooding completely as we are in a low spot, but just want to be able to keep the water to certain areas. Choosing the right plants for the lower lying areas will be critical as they will have to be able to cope with water over them, as well as long periods of drought and heavy clay soil. :learn:Many varieties of grasses should be suitable and callistemons (bottlebrushes) can handle it, but daisy bushes & lavenders are definitely out. Any suggestions are most welcome
I will take photos along the way.

Been a while since I've posted, but we have been busy cleaning up the garden after being flooded.

This garden was completely under water but thankfully most of the cycads have re-shot. (Still not sure about 2 of them)

We lost a lot of perennials in this garden bed, and have replanted with liriopes and other grasses. The trees here didn't mind a good drink!

Making a higher levy bank around the garden surrounding our house.

This pipe has been put in the middle of the path as it covers a stormwater drainage pit and this will make it easier to pump from (& much safer) if the area is ever under water again. A wooden cover is still to be put on top so it will look like a small seat in the middle of the path.

The garden at the front of our house. This was a swamp after January's rain, but most of the plants survived.

We have also made big changes to our vegi garden, replacing the beds with wicking beds so they will be above the water if we get flooded again.
