G'Day Guys...long time no post, been busy with work and I'm on the road 3 days a week so not much puter time  .

I did take some pic's this morning....then left the camera home :anger:

The corn is going great guns atm...must be all the warm weather and the rain as I have corn plants with 4 stalks growing out of them  The rows go Corn, beetroot, corn, carrots and there are some onions added in a few rows.
I've added two more gardens made from an old water tank for my pumkins plus extended the origional yard bed and added some smaller tanks I was origionally going to use for AP and tyres for tommies and spuds.
The broad beans unfortunately copped a slight spray from when the owner was doing fire breaks so I didn't get the full potential out of them...they have sprung back tho so there are more to come :)
I have also extended the smaller yard garden and now have golden nugget pumkins and butter beans growing there.

I'll post some pics as soon as I can

As promised....the pic of the corn isn't the best but it shows the progress.

I have another large water tank to pick up tomorrow morning with no top or bottom, I should be able to cut it into 3 for more garden beds

Dollar found a Bobby the other day too, surprisingly he was smart enough not to try and bite it.

How do you germinate your corn, punnets or soil? I have had poor germination in both this year.

Gnash - corn looks good. You are going to have a real glut.

Simo - I have planted 2 beds of corn this year, the first in about September I guess and the most recent late October. After having poor germination last year, I planted 3 seeds in each spot to make sure I got a plant in each. For the first planting I reckon all 3 came up in most spots, which I thinned out to the best one when they were 5 or 10 cms tall. With the second bed in quite a lot of spots none of the three came up. I had used a different brand and variety for the second planting and I suspect the same as I'd had problems with the previous year. Unfortunately I did not take note of the two, so no lessons learnt. If I had, I'd have been emailing the seed company and giving them a bit of a spray. May still as I'm sure that I will recongnise the seed packets if I go back to the shop and look.

Ironically, the ones that came up well I picked up at bunnings in a clearnace bin, which had all the packets at $1. I used 2 or three packets for the planting given I put 3 in each hole. For the second crop I bought in one of those "value" large packs from KMart, at a much more expensive price.

One thing I did this year was underplant the corn with cow pea to help supress the weeds. I reckon this has worked fairly well, though I did not plant densely enough for the first crop, meaning I still had to weed at one stage. The second crop I have planted very densely, which means the corn has had to pop up through the cow pea, but I am certain this has nothing to do with my germination issue.

I've had no real prob with germination, 1 seed per space and wait until 2 weeks after the corn sprouts....re-seed any that don't come up, I would of re-seeded maybe 10-15 and in a garden that size its pretty good I'd reckon

The shade only lasts until about 9:30am and going by the results it hasn't hindered growth bushy.

Some updates

I've noticed a patch in the corn that is lighter than the rest, these affected plants are just a single stalk whereas the rest have up to 3 extras growing from the base and are Dark green
The only thing I can put it down to is fertilizer or the lack of...I'll take the agronomist from work up home today and see what he reckons
