It’s a test run in this smoker EB, my previous attempts at cold smoking in the small chimenea were to much hassle
so always finished hot smoking and the meat didn’t last a week in the fridge.

Have rigged a temporary drying chamber to try out, good only for the winter months,
so hope I will have some left long enough to test it.

Would like to get hold of an old decent size fridge to adapt for drying.
Wouldn’t be that difficult.

I have never used the compressed wood shavings logs before but wouldn't they use an adhesive or something to bond the shavings together?

And what are your views on using pine either as a fuel or a smoke/flavour generator? I was warned away from it when I experimented with smoking due to the high levels of tar and carcinogens. It still doesn't make much sense to me, smoke is smoke is carcinogenic right?

After being AWOL for four weeks my DW wondered where her treasured
Fairy Garden disappeared.

Now just to find out what I planted and what I didn’t and then decide what to pull out.
Looks nice and very green, will break my heart to pull anything out.

We have nettles all through the garden as well and so do the neighbours. It seemed to happen a couple of years ago and out of the blue , weird

As I remember, nettles are indicators of rich, moist soil, so I don’t complain.

Took me a while to pull them all out.

Everything else coming up beaut, been picking up Globe Artichokes
since returning from holidays, and Russian garlic will be ready soon.

Toms planted quite late and in the shade of the fence and my neighbour’s trees are doing better that I expected.

Also Yacon, far left and Jerusalem Artichokes, at right with Cucumbers and Horseradish are doing fine after those recent rains.

Found rather painful paying so much for yogurt and tried it making myself.
Not that difficult, were rather pleased with my first two attempts.

I love looking at pictures of your yard Steve, it always seems so productive. If everyone put the effort into growing food in their ownn backyard that you have the world would be a better place :thunbs:

Your Artichokes are fantastic, mine are rather small here at the shop, still only perhaps 2 feet tall. My mum used to make yogurt with a little yogurt making machine fairly simple procedure from what I remember..

They are tall, but what’s underground what’s counts.
Will cut off the flowerheads as soon as they appear,
I heard, it helps growing the tubers.

When still a school kid, we used to make butter and ricotta at home but not yoghurt.
Not difficult, were using 2 litres vacuum flask but have bought a 5½ litres Magic Cooker.
Will see how it goes in it.

Don’t fool yourself, the picks always appear better than in reality, especially after a rain.
