We picked a few berries Simo but have not planted them yet as trees got trimmed it is too exposed for them now. Getting more productive everyday and zucchinis just starting so first slice for the season along eith homemade breads, butter and ricotta ;)

When can you start Mr Bill, got to get the place ship shape for round 2 of judging in the House and Garden magazine competition. I entered a few weeks ago and got a call this week and we won the "sustainable garden" category and outdoor furniture wotth $1135. The overall winner of the 6 gardens wins a trip for two to the Chelsea flower show in England. My fingers are crossed. I am excited too because my photography will be in their magazine yay! They said my photos were so good they did not need to send a photographer

That's a big pile of eggs, how many girls you got now Faye? Our sunflowers are still looking great, what do you do with yours? The chooks have been spoilt here by the one that has seeded so far.

I usually save the seeds for next season Mike. Over the years I have really struggled with them, thinking I planted them too late. This year I kept buying packets and got results from all of them. some of the seed heads I collected don't seem to have seeds in them, they may be hybrids, not sure. I would like to have enough of the right varieties to add to slices and breads.

As to how many chooks do we have -5 Hylines, 3 Australorps, 1 blue Australorp and a Light sussex plus a Light sussex rooster. So far we have 6 new chicks. Two other hens - Light sussex and A Hyline??? are job sharing on eggs - they are not very good at it. Hylines are not know for sitting on eggs - a bit strange.

Cute, did you try feather sexing them? My gold lace was clucky for a month, kept removing her, dunking in water and everything but she was as stubborn as. She has just started sitting in the nest again for what I consider to be too long (she must remember though as she leaves the coup to the yard for the rest of the day when I shove her out now) and I have also been removing her from the nest to the perch in the evenings. If she goes full blown again I will try and get hold of some fertilised eggs for her.

Do you separate the clucky chooks and chickens from the rest of the flock? If not have the other chooks bothered the chicks?

No Mike I didn't try feather sexing. Either way they will be good meat birds.

All is well at "Botanic Obsession" and the garden has been responding to the tlc. Half the mulch has been spread and only 3 piles left. I love a pile of mulch that never runs out.
