Here are a few random photos of my productive spaces at the moment. The dirt vege garden, chook pen and aquaponics system are all in the throws of being upgraded but you will have to wait till it happens for photos and descriptions. Currently our 1/2 acre includes production of olives (about 12 trees), citrus (lemon, orange, mandarin, lime, grapefruit), chooks (eggs only), aquaponics, vegies, bees, worms, grapes (around 9 muscat and 3 table varieties), mulberries and figs. Faye has bees in Jandakot, people probably wouldn't even know you have them. I do like the garlic growing in the kitchen sink.... |

Yep. metro WA, have two hives now and have friends with many more than that in the metro area. Here is my new hive, it is a lang style with 8 frames but I am using no foundation just the same as the topbar hive, bees were extracted from a couch arm last night Attachment: 14November2010 003small.jpg [ 33.64 KiB | Viewed 30682 times ] |

Not at my house, it was classy place with an outside couch that the bees had taken a liking too. It is still going on, had to return the hive to the place this morning to try and trap out the remaining bees that I could not shake out as they are not happy that their queen is gone, made me realise I will only be removing tree bourn swarms from now on, to much effort and grief doing other extractions unless people want to pay. |

Hi Burnsy, I found a page describing the Warre beehive design, a different type of topbar bee hive and I know how much you would love another woodwork project. http://milkwood.net/2010/10/28/the-way- ... #more-1248 |

Thanks Simo, you are so thoughtful I am aware of warre hives and my latest lang style is similar in that I am using no foundation so the bees are building down from the topbar of the frame which I have attached a bevelled timber starter strip to. I will be supering from above though as I don't think the whole insulation thing is as important here in WA were we don't get the months of snow over winter for the bees to endure. I do however want to make a pretty lid just like the one in the link for my topbar hive |
