Not actually a garden project, but I thought we could put some of our favorite gardening tools here.
I have two that I wouldn't want to be without. One is my Makita cordless chainsaw which DH gave me a few years ago for my birthday! Seriously I thought it was a great pressie and more useful to me than perfume or jewellery.

The other is my very old 4-prong garden fork that is perfect for digging in our hard clay soil.

I've had the same axe for 25 years. :thumb:
I've only replaced the handle 5 times and the head twice..................

My favourite tool is a pair of Felco secateurs that was handed down from my grandma when she died. I really need to replace the blade, but they still cut ok..

My favourite secateurs are playing hide and seek in the garden as they have green handles.
My favourite hand rake went for a handle reconscuction to the workshop and hasn't been since.
I love my lawnmower because you can run it all day along with the blower vac for less than $5- worth of petrol and make a world of difference. My pleasures are simple and cheap, oh and the garden hose in one hand and glass of wine in the other, what more could you ask.

My favourites are two relatively new additions to my collection (about 6 months old) and replace much more manual and true to permaculture principles tools that I have used in the past.

The first is my chainsaw - a realtively small one (just 16 inch bar) and therefore pretty light to use. It is a good quality brand though.

The second is my mulcher. It is a Hansa 6.5hp. More expensive than the cheap chinese ebay crap, but does a good job.

These tools make it much easier for me to try and keep things in order around here. Much more inclined to start trimming some stuff back if I know I can do it without massive effort, including trying to cut into bits with hand tools before carting off to the dump to lose all that nitrogen and carbon from my system.

My favourite tool was a double-headed hand fork and hoe but it disappeared after we took a lot of uncompostable stuff to the tip. I've looked for a replacement ever since, but only found tame imitations.

Most times it goes over peoples heads, maybe they dont listen, but I've only used it a few times. Heard it from an old bloke in victoria when I was a kid. I told him "but it wouldnt be the same axe anymore". He gave me grin.

We have a spade with yellow metal handle we bought from wesfarmers about 20 years ago but my favorite tool is 15lts Croplands backpack sprayer :hello: it has a double tank and you only have to pump the handle every few seconds, I am only allowed to use it under strictest supervision :dunno:

My favorite used to be my stihl fs85 whipper snipper. Used it heaps for about 6 years, started first time every time. Then it died when petrol without oil was put in. :ahhh:
Went to get a new one and got talked into the "new" model which is a 4 stroke, not 2 stroke like the old one. It still uses 2 stroke petrol but has more power (definitely not useable power!) and less emmissions.
They didnt tell me that it also chews through twice as much petrol so I bet that stuffs up any emission savings. What a step backwards by stihl. The new one pretty much runs at one speed which makes it feel that little bit underpowered (because it is.) This is a good example of how companies play with figures, ie "less emissions" - but uses way more petrol. "more power" - yet definitely not as powerful (probably more power but less torque.)
When this one dies if I can put up with it for that long I'll buy the next size up.

My whipper snipper is a Kawasaki. Goes great - never a problem.
