Nup, grows outside no problem at all... I had a large turmeric plant till I built my AP system, it had to go, well it went because retic was moved and I didn;t notice it wasn;t getting water,... Ginger I'm not 100% sure about but galingal grows very well in Perth and it's similar to ginger. |

Most asian stores have it Dennis. Lucky's in Northbridge and Kongs in Vic Park both have it fairly regularly. |

Glad you started this thread Curnow - good reminder that I've always been interested in growing it over the years but never gotten to it. I'm off to find some ! |

I've got both turmeric and ginger growing in a barrel-ponics system inside a hot house. So far they are performing much better than expected. The tumeric has been in since the 21-12-09 only just started to shoot. The ginger however was planted on 15-11-09 and is growing very well. It has even produced a second shoot. Both of thier leaves taste fantastic in herbal teas, especially ginger. Below are some pics, taken about two weeks ago. Does anybody know when the plants should be harvested?

Jackie French says to harvest it in Autumn when the leaves are well on the way to dying off ! |
