I reckon it makes perfectly good sense. I've seen a few permie people recommending a similar style of thing, yet I also remember when my dad was planting an orchard about 20 years ago and the ag department recommended removing every bit of stick and or log you could find from the orchard area because of disease risk.. I prefer the rotting wood idea, makes more sense as a forest ecosystem type set up.

Geeze I am up with the times and didn't even know it My olives are planted on a big pile of conifer logs that looked to expensive to take to the tip (double cost as you have to pay to remove them then buy soil to replace their bulk). I figured the white ants here would make fast work of them so i piled fresh soil on top and planted my olives. Four years on and they are huge.

I looked at them before. Plants need help with water and feed for the first year. But after that they can go for 30 ish years on there own. You would think councils would do this instead of burning all the green waste that goes out the tip. I also think they should do a similar thing with cemeteries. Fill up the graves with wood etc and plant a tree over it. Be hard for a logging company to bribe there way to clear a forest if the trees are planted over people.
