I was wandering the local fruit and veg store yesterday with Mitch and we stopped and looked at some green plums, they looked a bit strange and the sign said "best eating". Yeah right I though....

One of the old guys that works there came over and said "here try." He ripped one open and handed us half each. Now it's strange to see a plum thats, green, it's even stranger that you can just rip it in half without it squelching into a mush of juice, surely it can;t be ripe... But no it tasted great...

The fruit are huge and heart shaped, they are a very firm meaty plum, yet very sweet with a slightly tart skin.

The seed inside is extremely small, and has a small hollow cavity at the base of the seed, but small seed means that you get a lot of flesh, and because the flesh is quite meaty it's filling to eat them.

Anyway, I'm convinced, I've already been back to the shop this morning and bought a bag full, and I've been searching for suppliers of the trees, seems that they might be available locally here in perth at tas1trees.

Here's a pic I found online. You can see that it's an easy thing to walk past if you didn;t know about them, they don't look bright and colourful like other plums, but if you see them, give them a try...

They sound, and look, great EB - pressure is building inside me to hit a good nursery and spend some money, and the kelsey will be on the list to look out for.

I have a feeling that I might be able to get them from Tass1. They have them on their list, now I just have to get motivated and get up there to see if they have some.

Interesting thing about the tass1 nursery. Someone linked to an auction on the AP forum where they were selling IBC's. When I went searching for Kelsey plums the same auction link came up that had the IBC's http://www.auctions.com.au/auctions/200 ... logue.html

I had assumed that the auction was a closing down sale, but perhaps they were just spring cleaning... I'm a bit disappointed that I didn;t take more notice when someone linked to it before because there was a stack of fruit trees..

G'day Gang,

Yep Joel, Tass1 has a auction regularly. I think once a year or maybe twice.

We are going down to Tass1 tomorrow so I will check if they have them.

Cheers
Dennis

Things like almond, macadamia, pecan, pistacchio, brazil, and of course peanuts hehehe

Kelsey plum time of year again, just found them at me local fruit n veg shop... I've become a bit of a plumaholic lately trying all the different varieties when I visit Tony's (fruit n veg shop) 2-3 times a week. I've been having Balck amber, Santa rosa, Fortune, prune plums, ruby bloods, and amber jewels, as well as a few others I can;t remember. Amber Jewel was my favourite up till now this season.

Well this morning finally I saw the Kelsey's were back in season, grabbed a bag and I've eaten three big ones already... Just wondering if I nip down again today for some more or if I should wait till tomorrow arvo... By far the best plum in my opinion...
