Just some piccies of my pink grapefruit as it bearing fruit for the first time in the 2½ years I've had it in the ground. So far it's only about 4ft high, but this is the only year it's had any significant growth. Quite a bushy habit to it.

Nice crop coming on there CD... My dad used to have a huge grapefruit tree when I was young, unfortunately I found them to be a bit of an acquired taste. Or perhaps I just don't like them much  . I saw some Pomelos in the shop the other day, are they similar to grapefruit?

Thanks EB. Yeah, I'm not a big fan of them either, but Mrs Chilli will get out of bed for one, so we had to have one. Had pomelo over in Thailand - wasn't that impressed with them either, same sort of flavour and tartness. |

That a fair amount of fruit. Do you fertilize. I'm finding the prep work makes a big difference in the time it takes some trees to start producing. |

Duff, the holes dug for the trees were significant compared to their size and plenty of organic material dug in. But since then it's been regular watering and Dynamic Lifter scattered around every couple of months. Noting else, so, yeah, I'd agree, the prep is the largest contributing factor as they all seem to be doing well this year and all the citrus have only been in for 2.5 years. |

Seems like a fairly early citrus season this year, I have a lot of naval oranges starting to colour up right now as well, and a few dropping because the crop on the tree was way too heavy. |

yeah, I have mandarins colouring up as well as lemons and oranges. Limes are dropping all over the place, even the kaffirs. |

I'm using limes already here at Benger, with mandarins, grapefruit and early navels colouring nicely. Still waiting on Sevilles for my marmalade and, of course, the late orange. Cumquats still only tiny. |

Never posted on this board before - but though this would be more appropriate then the aquaponics forum. List last winter I lost a lemon and a lime tree, but the root stock is still good and growing new branches. Would it be possible to remove some branches from my grapefruit and orange tree and graft them onto the still living root stock? I would hate to pull them if they could still be used. Thanks Mark |

Thanks Mark Should work as the rootstock is for the same type of tree. If there is enough room on the trunk you may want to graft a chip-bud(the bump that turns into a new branch) under the bark on the root stock. |
