Post subject:  Blackberries and Mulberries
I have a raging Blackberry in the missus' bathtub Aquaponics system, has been in just on a year and also planted a white Mulberry which is around 6 foot tall, when do these fruit? I have read that Blackberry doesn't fruit in first year and Mulberry 10 years :shock: have NFI how old Mulberry is just bought it from Garden shop

Naaaa.... If your mulberry tree is 6 foot you can expect fruit to start next year I would think. My white mulberry tree is probably only 6-8 years old and it is HUGE. Biggest tree in my yard by far and produces lots of fruit starting in about November I think for memory.

What do they taste like EB, I didn't go for red ones as I remember getting my arse kicked as a kid for staining clothes, we use to have mulberry fights, as you do

I had a dwarf mulberry at my last house, it was fruiting like crazy with 2 years.

I've got a big black mulberry tree that produces masses of fruit, but unfortunately the fruit fly are so bad here that rather than eat the fly blown fruit I just let the chooks eat it once it has dropped in the most part. Chooks love it and it gives their laying a real kick along.

The reason I'm posting though is to comment about a second much smaller tree mayber 8 foot tall that I have poking through the roof of my chook pen. It has an interesting shaped leaf, different to a standard mulberry. I looked forward to the first fruiting to see if the fruit was any different also, but as a self sown from seed tree the bloody thing is not true and produces a flower but no fruit :-(

The fruit of a white mulberry tastes totally different to a black one. A little like a cross between an apricot and watermelon. Very different, and most people are surprised, you can even eat the green ones and they are fairly sweet..

White mulberries kick ass compared with the blacks..

g'day all! Just a quick question. Neighbour has a black mulbery which I pinch a bit of fruit from. I'm guessing that they will grow from cuttings as he has already cut it down once and is back up to approx 5 feet high. Is there any special tips for taking and growing the cuttings? Will they be OK in a pot for a while?

I used to have a black mulberry tree - unfortunately (for it) it was exactly in the middle of where one of my AP grow beds was to go. The tree is no longer with us :P

Unfortunately for me, I was to STUPID to keep the wood for smoking :bash: :error:
No idea what the hell I was thinking....

Cod Fish the tree will grow from cuttings and pot will be fine, for better success use Root Hormone Powder, get from any garden shop and is cheap

CD what is wrong with mulberry wood, save me googling :dunno:

I wonder if how a dwarf mulberry would go in a pot? the one I had at my last house was around 3 metres wide and 1.8 metres tall.

Have to keep it pruned a lot more in a pot though.

My Mulberry is only about 3.5 feet tall and has already given a small amount of fruit.
I planted some cuttings in pots with nothing more than potting mix and they have all take off :)
