Hi guys,

We have rockmelon and watermelon growing at the moment, maybe 2 months old now. How long would it be before we expect fruit? There seems to be lots of little yellow flowers but no fruiting yet. Is there anything special we should be doing with these varieties?

My understanding (although I have not personally to grow them) is that like pumpkins, they have both male and female flowers. So you may need assist with the pollination of flowers.

Yep hand pollination is the way to go. Pull off a male flower (they just have a stalk) and wipe pollen on a female flower (they have a tiny fruit below the flower). Once pollinated the fruit will swell and grow quickly

Ok coolies, after closer inspection I could see the male and female flowers. I think I was looking for a more prominent bulb.... they are tiny on my plant.

I shall self pollinate, thanks.
