I have several citrus trees in large pots and was having a terrible time with mealy bugs. Not wanting to spray, I picked them off regularly, but they kept returning. I heard that they had eggs in the soil and that it would be necessary to re-pot the trees if I wanted rid of them, but decided instead to use the trick for keeping aphids from roses- I planted several garlic cloves in each pot and it seems to have done the trick. :joy: What's more I'll get the garlic as well as the fruit. :thumb:

Hey GS, I read somewhere that garlic contains sulphur, so planting it also helps reduce fungal problems, being that sulphur is used as a fungicide. Can anyone confirm or deny that?

Ineresting.... I thought spraying with oil would be about the only way to get rid of them.

You can try a chili spray, with garlic, chili pepper, chayenne pepper, a bit of dish detergent, maybe some neem leaves and spray it on, won't work right away but if you use it every 3 -4 days for a couple of weeks it will get the job done.

Also, ants milk the mealy bugs so they carry them up to the leaves, get rid of the ants you have and that should help.
