But chickens won't be able to follow the termites to the nest-so presumably the termites will come back to finish off the fence!

Echidna ?

You wont be able to kill every termite, they are everywhere.
Are you in sub tropics or temperate?
I got them all over the place
I just leave garden lights on a timer under the house to keep up a good supply of geckos, cane toads and tree frogs to hopfully keep them under control near the house.

You can get the pvc pipe buried in the ground and bait them with wet corrugated cardboard then when they are there you apply the expensive powder to kill them.

Hmmm, we are in a temperate zone. I know they are around, and we have loads of bush around they are welcome too- just not the fence!! I read that a mix of Neem oil and pyrethrum is good and safe as well, but was hoping for an easy (and safe) solution I could buy :sad2:

They dont like salt but neither does anything else
Local Bushy puts a handful of rock salt in when put the fence posts in.
Maybe neem would work I don't know if pyretherum is strong enough.
I have heard of people using oils like Huon Pine oil I would imagine cedar oil or cyprus pine oil might work, probably neem might be the easiest and cheapest to get.

you should be able to get orange oil

Maldison is one of the few things that will knock them over completely .... but it is nasty stuff and no good anywhere near your pool :yuck: ....sorry thats all I've got other then taking down the fence and using it for firewood :bad:

I've just found then in a treated hardwood sleeper retaining wall near my shed. Was going to knock them over with some commercial termite poison I bought a number of years back but never used (it's just a liquid, not return to the nest stuff). Bottom line though is that I don't want to take the chance of not getting the queen and the whole nest, so will get the pesty in. It's one thing having in the sleepers, another thing having them eat the house out.

We have this system which seems to be the way to go.
