I thought I should venture over to this part.
I've been wanting more chickens for a while now, but were a little traumatized by last time.
The first chicken pen I built wasn't the greatest, clucky escaped, and my then puppy labrador brought in half of her and happily, wagging tail, gave me half of what he'd caught flapping around.
So, 5 years later, it was round two. But they needed to be dog proof, so I started to weld up a frame.
Cladding with fencing sheets that match our existing fence.
So, all built, just need to find some plastic edge trim to keep fingers safe from the sharp bits, the hanging feed hoppers are coming, and then I just need the chickens.
I was going to get some good layers like rhode island reds, or something similar (no battery hens like isa browns, or hylines, they just don't live long enough, seems cruel).
Then some pretty ones like pekins, orpingtons, silkies or similar.
Plus, I set up a mister system, so I can cool them down when we have 40+ adelaide days.
