I had one of my Big Black Australorps die last night, about a year old. She was very lethargic and fluffed up but no other real symptoms and seemed fine the day before. Looked like Coccidiosis which we have had here before (I believe it is everywhere) but the ground is dry and the bird was an adult so I doubt it. I found a good resource for commom chook dieases: http://www.users.on.net/~greggles/suite/diseases.html But the symptoms did not really match any of the other diseases either. I think she may have been eggbound and died of septic shock |

My little flock consists of 6 white plymouth rock hens and 5 welsummerhens and 2 welsummer roosters. From what I read about the welsummers they need to get free ranged or have their food rationed or they will get too fat to lay. Those Australorps are some really big birds but didn't read that anywhere about them. |
