Hello people
I am planning (or better preparing the block) to get some Damara sheep.
At the back of the block we had 2.5 acres of wilderness and every dry season we have to worry about fires because of all the high dry grass.
I just put in 4 impact sprinklers and 4 troughs with are fed directly from a 3 litre per second bore. The troughs have float valves and fill up every time the sprinkler starts which will be 2 times a day for the start. Every sprinkler covers a circle of roughly 35m in diameter and i would like to grow some grass under 2 and maybe lucerne or some other foraging plants under the other 2.
The 2.5 acre are divided now into 2 equal size blocks with 2 of the sprinklers each. So the plan is to move stock from one half to the other every 6 weeks depending on the plant growth.
I got recommended not to go over 3 ewes and 1 ram on this size to allow for enough food for the lambs. In the wet it should not be a problem, if we get a proper one, not like the last one. :/
My dogs are a little disappointed that they cant roam the whole block anymore, but the will like the sheep and sit on the fence all day i guess, maybe i will provide some water for the dogs as well and shade. ;)
The perimeter fence is 3 feet pig mesh plus 2 feet of barb wire on top, just added another foot of barbed wire.
Will be nice to have some different food in between all the fresh barramundi.
