Apparently we are allowed to eat horse now in WA. http://fw.farmonline.com.au/news/state/ ... 81128.aspx I am surprised that we were restricted in the first place. OK, I am not the squeamish type and will give any animal a chew at least once but really if someone wants to eat horse, dog, cat whatever go for it. |

I wouldn't mind trying a bit of horse, I'm sure it's eaten in plenty of countries. Can't go past a bit of goat, so under rated and underutilized here in Australia. |

We've had goat a few times, I found that it has been quite tough, but it could have been the cut too. |

There is a horse abattoir at Caboolture north from me. All their meat went to the European market for human consumption. Have to try and get more goat, we have a local butcher that sells it at times. |

It would be nice to have a butcher close by that likes to experiment with different meats, kangaroo is fairly common place now, what about a few croc steaks, some camel horse..? |

Another butcher not far from me is Jack Purcell Meats I haven't got around to visiting them. http://www.jackpurcellmeats.com.au/retail.asp From their site Quote: Jack Purcell Meats hosts an extensive range of Gourmet Delight Meat Dishes for fine dining, Stir Frys, Kebabs along with a diverse range of Game and Poultry such as Crocodile, Buffalo, Venison, Kangaroo and Ostrich. Quail, Spatchcocks, Turkeys, Ducks and Chickens are also available. I really should pay them a visit. |

I eat Roo and Croc quite regularly. It's all in the way you cook it with both of them. Many people say they dont like it, but have just cooked it wrong. Roo - Has to be cooked Medium or under, any more and it's ruined, tough as a boot! I refuse to cook it Well Done. Croc - Has to be cooked the same was you cook Fish. Shallow oil, High Heat, Quickly as possible! It is so easy to over do these meats, and they are terrible if cooked for too long. My missus said she hated fish, I asked "How long did your mum used to cook it for?", "about 45 mins" she said and I said "You Dont hate fish you just havent tried it cooked properly". She now loves fish! |

They're discussing eating horse meat on another forum I frequent, they crack me up with these comments. - Horse meat gives me the trots! - I have to nag my wife before she cooks horse! - I'm so hungry I could eat a horse. |

Jaymie wrote: Dave, have you found that croc tastes like what the croc was fed? like chook if that's what they were fed or like fish... I cant really compare the two because all the croc meat is farmed, so they're diet is mostly chicken. And because we arent allowed to hunt wild crocs, I cant compare the two. It would be interesting though. It's hard to put a taste to it because it's like nothing you've had before, it's a very white meat and looks alot like chicken. I reckon it could taste like a cross between Chicken and Fish, but leaning more to the Fish side. Dunno, it's a hard one! |
