Post subject:  Dogs
Ok so I know it's all about Backyard farming and I wouldn't eat dog EGGS :yuck: but there has got to be a place (I think) for the forgotten heros, the companions, and to some "Ya best mate"

So lets see them.

The first is of Spud I had him for just over 10 yrs and most from the older BYAP members will remember.
The next is Grunt, had him for only two years.
And stay tuned cause there is another coming soon :wink:

We found Lucky near our doorstep about 7 years ago when she was a tiny puppy, or perhaps i should say 'she found us'. After some investigating we believe her mother was a staffy, and obviously her father must have been a lab! She is now a much loved member of our family :love:

This is "Dollar" my 3yo Bullarab, not the best photo as I was actually trying to get a picture of the plants not him. The "cone of shame", as it has been refered to before, is after one of his many minor ops, he would weigh more than his 50kg if he still had all his bits.

Best dog I have ever owned as far as personality and trainability, I would recomend this breed to almost anybody.

I've been looking into that breed lately (not that I'll prolly change from bullies)...how do they go with other dogs simo?...I meen strange dogs...are they instant "I'll tear your head off" dogs or say happy go lucky ones.

I wanted to try a caucasian shepherd dog next. They are good guard dogs, cute. :joy:

They are not innately aggressive towards other dogs as they are not bred to fight but rather work in teams so they generally get on well, as they are a hunting dog they do have an irresistible urge to chase any thing that runs from it (I blame it on the greyhound part of the breed as they are made up of bull terrier, greyhound and english pointer I think) and this can intimidate some other dogs :anger: making them react badly.

My dog has never attacked or fought another dog in public but once a male dog came onto our property and attacked him, Dollar would not back down on home turf and gave him a good seeing to. Because off this I always watch him in public just encase another male tries to dominate him, but he has always played well down the dog park.

I got the pick of his litter so I chose the enforcer of the pack because I didn’t want a large male dog that tried to dominate my wife or kids and so far he has worked out well. They guy I got him off now breeds Louisiana Catahoulas but he may still be producing Bullarabs if you change your mind.

Brother has Bullarabs good dog for people that like to take there dog with them all the time. Easy to train.

I've been trying to find out more about this, before when I got a pup I always got the one that came to me...now I'm finding out that that is usually the leader of the group, not always a good thing but sometimes alright if thats what you want.

Any suggestions on reading material to find out more info ?

Actually the one that comes up to you is generally the enforcer as their job is to check out the new arrivals to the pack and sort out any fights between other pack members. The enforcer is the alpha males right hand man, so if you want your dog to bond closely to you (assumming you are the alpha of your family) and accept you as leader with out trying to challage for dominance this is the dog you want.

The alpha male can be identified form his interactions with the other dogs in the pack not new arrivals. I don't have any good resourses as such, I have just picked up bits and pieces watching docos on wolves and alike.

I personally think that to see what personality your dog will have as a puppy you need to be the first one to take a puppy out of the pack as if the person who took a puppy before you has chosen an important pack member it will disrupt the pack dynamic. I also think the pups should be left with the pack for at least 10 weeks to learn how the pack system works and develope their position in the heirarchy. We once got a Rotti that was taken from his mum at 4 weeks :sad2: (not by us) and he could never understand why he had to sleep outside with the dog :crazy:
