Taadaa :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: Introducing the new umm dare I say pets. They are beautiful rabbits that are set to be the breeding stock. 31 days after the honeymonn we would expect to have offspring and then maybe around 20 weeks later they shall be harvested and prepared for the freezer. That is the rough plan, we will see how we go and will keep you updated.

Mum is Quokka. I guess when they produce a litter the babies could be called quocals! Tis the silly time of the night, and I can't sleep. :bash: Might be a full moon or something.

Special delivery! Our new boy in the pen with the girls, he really is a handsome young fellow, tall, dark and really quite regal.

I figured that since the veges were looking so good, perhaps they might taste alright too. Tried the cos lettuce and had a casear salad for lunch, oh yeah it was pretty good. Also harvested a chinese cabbage that the caterpillars had found for a home, they were promptly fed to the eagerly awaiting chooks and ducks.

Well as today was my official day off, the alarm was set for 7am. The Hills Garden Club were due for a tour of the BYAP shop at 10am and then back to my garden for morning tea at around 11am. I couldn't get in to the tidy up mode yesterday after work, so it all had to be done today. You know up at the crack of dawn, clear the crap off the patio, blower vac the driveway. Feed the fish, chooks, ducks, rabbits and then try to look good myself. Breathe, relax etc. More coffee and off we go. They were a lovely group of real down to earth gardeners, many who were excited to hear more about aquaponics. So following a tour of the shop it was back here for coffee and biscuits and a wander around the garden.

Charlie is the talking pink and grey galah, he and Bonnie the kelpie have a good relationshop. When he is in the cage she chases him, he doesn't care. When he is out of his cage he chases the dog and Bonnie stands well back, fearful of the bird. Funny to watch. He has a pretty broad repertoir "Dance, cocky dance, (as he bops away) back step, tripple step, tripple step"
"Here Bonnie" "Have you fed the fish" " Do you want a drink of wine?" "Don't forget to shut the gate" "Whos a gorgeous boy" "Give us a kiss" "Tickle, Tickle" -I taught him everything he knows :)

second all that Simo says and would suggest the wyandottes - gold or silver laced are very pretty. they are not a small bird and not a large bird but they are definitely large enough to roast even the boys. Their egg production is more than adequate especially if you plan on using some for meat.

Took your advice Fizzyj- on my way to pick up 2 gold laced wyandotte hens. Will then be looking for a rooster as I have found these to be difficult to source, particularly at this time of year.
Plan to breed them :D

I have a gold rooster too many, you are welcome to it as it really is too nice to eat. Where did you get your hens from so as not to breed from the same family.

Fantastic FizzyJ, thanks heaps! I picked up the hens from Warnbro yesterday, they were named Cherp and Goldie I think. The lady said that one was about 7 months old, so I thought that perhaps she had bred them herself.
When is a good time to collect, maybe later today?

Well after many days of waiting the moment (well one of them) we have been waiting for arrived. See pics and imagine our excitement :thumb: :joy:

I amagine the egg is from the Isa browns that we got last weekend, I remember the lady saying that some of them were laying double yokers, so fingers crossed. The egg is a good sized one too.
The mandarins are starting to ripen and I picked these a couple of days ago, it seems the longer they stay on the tree, the sweeter the fruit.

Eggs are great. And remember when your fridge is filled with them and you can't give enough away. They make good fish food.
