Historic moment last week, finally got around to using Burnsy's sombrero, originally intended for the aquaponics it is now a frog pond near my vegie patch to attract insect eating critters to the area. Eventually it will become a duckponics pond as inspired by TCLynx with a separate pond for the frogs that is protected from the ducks.

Yeah we get it home and school on some aeas of pea straw mulch. Only seems to be in patches and does not seem to do anything bad, I just figure ir is helping to break down the straw.

Good to know, I figured it was from composting meadow hay from last season, I rested this paddock last year by not grazing as heavily and as a result a lot of last years pasture is just composting into the soil where in previous years it would have been processed into hay bales or horse poo.

Living the DREAM .... Simo. I cant wait to find some space to play over here in northern NSW. Do you have any trouble with snakes? with all those tasty green morsels hopping around your water tanks mate. Great looking dog you have there, i bet he is living the good life.

Never seen a snake on my property yet, my place is mostly pasture so there is little place for them to hide form the Kites constantly circling overhead and I assume they avoid the place or the birds keep th number down. I am sure thay come and go as they please but snaks generally head in tghe other dircetion when they feel a human approaching.

I would love to get some land in northern NSW, a mate has a few hundred acres near Nightcap national park, good soil good rainfall and absolutey stunning vistas.

This is what happens when the minister for war lets the dogs inside to be near the fire on a cold night.

He is thinking " I'll put up with what ever you want as long as you let me stay in the human house all night"

We had lots of mould like that on the straw around here too Simo, so yeah, sounds like something that might be from the old stubble..

I built a chicken tractor to stop the chooks destroying the house garden plants, works well but I would beef up the suspension next time as uneven suraces can be a bit of a challenge

After last years rotton spud disaster I am having another go at potatoes, I didn't have enough dirt in the inground wicking beds yet so I dug some trenches to aid drainage and mounded up the dirt to plant the spuds in. Left is Deleware and right is Ruby Lou. Rotting hat bales to the side is to cover once they start to grow.

Your soil up there looks pretty good, not just pure sand like we have down here on the flats..
