I think the other may be a pink fairy orchid Caladenia hirta or latifolia, if it is the same as what we have here. Same family as the cowslip (sun orchid) the other is what we have called a Leek orchid.
So where is a pick of the turkeys???

Turkey pictures are coming!
With the orchids, I think the taller one is more like microtis media than the leek orchid:

http://www.retiredaussies.com/ColinsHom ... 0media.htm

Though I am not 100% thats for sure! I don't think the other is a pink fairy orchid though, we do get those as well but they tend to have one or two main leaves at ground level where this one has several leaves up the stem.
I am trying to get hold of an orchid book, then I may be able to confirm! I may even have mistaken what the lady said, though I am sure she said both were orchids. I should have written it down!

Now to take those pictures....

Fingers crossed they grow, stay alive, and don't all turn out to be gobblers!!

One of the turkey poults died unfortunately.....it became most peculiar with its head practically upside down due to a twisted neck! All the others are growing well, as are the chickens.

Poultry with twisted necks is commonly a sign of viral infection and is not good, maybe Newcastle disease: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newcastle_disease
or even botulism :learn:

Keep them well away from your other poultry until you can be sure of what is going on.

Best of luck

We were worried about that, but when reading the symptoms it really didn't sound right. we did isolate it just in case, and it actually died yesterday :sad2: all the others are fine, so hopefully it was some bizarre thing that won't be repeated!

The rest of the turkeys are doing fine, so hopefully there was some aberration with that one :dunno:
The chicks are growing well, in fact we have now had to remove the mother hen because she had had enough and wanted to get back with the other 'grown ups'.

Turkeys and Australorp chicks are all growing well and have been moved to larger quarters!

It seems that at least two are gobblers, possibly three...of the six :sad2:

The chicks have been in with the chooks now for a while, and after an initial 'pecking order' sort out all are fine. We are yet to determine the ratio of roosters and hens! Unfortunately two of the adult hens have bare backs. We have dusted for mites/lice, and clipped the roosters claws but they seem to be getting worse.

The veggie gardens are growing well, though there is white fly around again :bad:

Hot this weekend, but thank goodness for the rains earlier in the season!

It is nice and damp that's for sure!! We had about 23 mm since 9 am apparently- certainly good for all the new plantings :joy: Did you get any in Northam?
