I have just realised that this is the first summer that i have had no spiders around the yard. Usually I am training the orbs to spin their webs away from the path or areas of access and on my way to beer fridge in shed usually have to take stick with me. Nothing this summer~!! I have paper wasps hanging around AP Could they have got rid of my Orbs??.

I have no idea if paper wasps will kill the spiders, but it wouldn't surprise me...vicious things they are! We have had heaps this Summer and their favorite spot to build nests is the eves of our house. I spray them with some pyrethrum and they drop real quick. (always wanted to use that smily)

Tristrin, I have some nests under the fence capping right near one of my growbeds. Ooh and they get really buzzed off with me if I go to plant or remove leaves from their territory. They get under the shadecloth and get water from the clayballs.

I dont really want to get rid of them as I think they are pollinating as they go.

Of course, you will hear me scream and jump about when I get stung multiple times and thats when they have done their dash!!
I also have a family of butcher birds who are new to the yard, maybe snacking on my eight legged friends!

I don't like spraying insects, infact I don't like using many chemicals at all. But I have been stung by paper wasps quite a few times and have had some bad reactions to them. I would leave their nests alone if they are out of the way, but not when they are around our house, buzzing just above my head. :scared2:

Obviously nobody else is having a lack of spiders. Yes, It is a crazy thing to be worrying about but I worked late last night and by the time I got home and wandered out to shed for refreshment, and being so hot I couldnt sleep, so plodded about the yard and then it hit me that this whole summer I havnt ended up with the web wig!!

Oh well, lets see what crazy things I come up with tonight as I wander the yard in search of a breeze of some kind. Another hot evening ahead of us and no aircon. Boo Hoo!!

I bet those Narrogin spiders are hanging out for a cool breeze too!!

No lack of spiders here, I see plenty of webs between bushes in the mornings, so maybe that's a sign that the wasps are not cleaning up the spiders. :dunno:
Its actually turned cool here at night and probably wont be long before we will have the fire going at night. Some nice weather forcast for the weekend (about 27), so will be good for gardening. :)

This is the longest time in my lifetime without any rain. That 0.2mm that we got didnt count cos the ground here didnt even get wet. I think its nearly 5 months now. Cost me $1200 the other day too because my tank ran dry and the pump shat itself from running dry.
Come on rain!

Hmmm.. Oh well Im glad everybody else has got plenty. Maybe they were sick of watching me go backwards and forwards to check the fish out and they thought this summer would be too risky for them to throw a web. Lucky for me!! :thumb:
Just got to get rid of the 'skeetas and I will be able to spend all night outside

Hopefully not. Yesterday was 27, today and Sunday are supposed to be 29 and Monday and Tuesday 31 is forecast. But even temps in the low 30's dont feel as hot this time of year as they do in Summer, as the mornings start quite cool, and then it cools down early in the evening. Autumn is my favorite time of the year. 8-)

I hope I am wrong to SM but not looking good to Mid April, bit hard to be accurate after that, I think we will get rain but temps around high 20's for a while, 32 here and 60% humidity, not pleasant at all, and too early for a beer
