Duff, you know the quondong is a hemi-parasitic plant and needs a host plant to latch onto to obtain it's nutrients (other than sugar from it's own photosynthesis). A guy in Quorn, Sth Australia, spent a number of years researching how best to get them to grow.

It's cousin, the Sandalwood, is the same and presented similar problems to the industry.

They only seem to need the other plant to get going. The notes say about planting it in a pot with another plant. Its more getting the kernel out of the seed via the vice thats got me interested in whats going to happen.

Yeah, they're pretty hard shells, that's for sure.

When I was a kid, my grandpa went through a stage of making Chinese Checker boards for everybody he knew, and the counters were, of course, all quondong seeds in the shell (painted).

Has anyone ordered any seeds from the US.(not that kinda seed). I followed a link to a US site and man they have a huge range of plants. :shock2: Lots of funny looking vegies and a bigger range of tomatoes. They post to anywhere. But I'm not sure if there are rules for importing seed stock.

You can get same varieties from OZ to Duff, I doubt you could bring seeds in, not if you watch border security anyhow, one I use on Ebay is the Seedy Lady, have good germination rates with her seeds and also another Little Miss Seedy, they have a lot of the unusual and giant varieties,
Will be interesting to see how your Mortgage Lifters go, I have only got normal size Tomato's off mine, but have discovered with that variety that now is the time to plant them :bash: should do homework first :dunno:

Yeah, I've ordered obscure chilli seeds a few times and never had any problems. As long as they're professionally packaged and labelled they all seem to get through alright.

Yeah I looked into importing some seeds of muscadines a while back, if you don;t know what they are check them out here, look very interesting http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muscadine . Anyway, this is the place you need to go, database for Australian quarantine. So long as they say it's ok, and you buy from a reputable supplier, should be no problems...

Not to mention the rain n storms now... From one extreme to another. Plants copping extreme heat and sun in the morning, then being smashed by big ice balls in the afternoon..

Might be pushing it with eggplant and water melon this late in the season CD...

Agreed - got them to make sure I had them for Spring - might do the same with my tomatoes instead of waiting till they've sold out of half the stuff I'm after.
