I got a few varieties including a couple of the purple ones, King Edward has proven to be the best all rounder though...

it is funny the look on peoples faces when you give them purple mash potatoes.. :lol:

BTW, there is a lot of fruit trees that are on dwarf stock these days so you can have full orchard in a very small space..something to consider when planting your garden out.

Man there are a lot of different spuds on that page... Those purple ones look weird, I wonder if they are higher in antioxidants like most other red/blue things.

It is a US one (Australian pressure cookers cant reach high enough temp), however we found a mushroom man in victoria who has imported some in. Apparently he uses it to sterilize his growing media for the mushrooms.

Hi Chillidude, you can preserve the low acid foods with a pressure canner which you cant with the fowlers kit. eg. chicken stock, spag meat, rubharb, potatoes etc... you can also use it in the same manner as a fowlers, or as an ordinary pressure cooker (for those really tough meat cuts).

It helps if you have limited resources like those who are on solar power and unable to run a chest freezer, cooked meat on the shelf instead of a freezer full of meat.

The Australian pressure cooker cannot get to a high enough pressure to be able to preserve in that fashion. However, the pressure guage of the pressure canner is meant to be tested yearly to ensure it is still operational and accurate. (green living australia have someone who is able to test them).

wahoo we are back. Been having difficulty logging in. We would log in, and the who is online would say we were there, we just couldnt use anything. Finally decided to delete the cookies and try again.

Now i just feel silly for not having done it sooner.
