My Dad has a 650, Awesome bit of gear.

Yeah everything is green because of the Wet Season, we get a couple of Meters of rain every season. The Wet up here really is a beautiful time of year, most of the Tourism photos you see are all taken in the Wet, then all the Tourists visit in the Dry and wonder why it doesnt look the same. If you can put up with a bit of heat you really need to visit Darwin in the Wet.

Just went on a Can Am course, the new 800cc has 71hp now, it really is a fast machine, 0-110kmh in less than 50mts.
Darwin is on my hit list, I don't think I could handle the humidity in wet season though, I come from the northern wheatbelt originally and have experienced temps constantly over 45c and love it, add a bit of moisture though..........................

Well I have had a pretty bad run with Poultry around my place this last week. Lost 4 Ducks and a Chook!
As you know from another thread that I had an injured Duck that I had to put down and I also put down the Aggressive Drake and got some meat from him.
Two nights ago while I was away on a fishing trip I came home to the last female muscovy dead, no visible injuries! The next day when we were out the last muscovy drake was attacked and I had to put him down, he had puncture wounds and was bleeding from the mouth and nose (internal injuries), anyway I thought either my Dogs or Eagles, I didnt want to think it was one of my dogs as they had been so good with all the animals here. There have been alot of eagles around so I put it down to that!
That same afternoon I caught one of my dogs Jack (Brindle one above) attacking an indian runner, luckily he didnt have enough time to injure it before he copped a size 13 in the side of his head!!! He has learnt!

Then putting the hens away last night I noticed one was missing, Im assuming he had killed it earlier in the day and it's somewhere on the block!

So I Dont have anymore Muscovies, Im down 1 hen and I have one very sorry dog!

Shit Dave, it is a pain when dogs start taking animals, they seem to get the taste for it, hope yours comes good, but yet to see it

They can be trained out of it, I had a Rotti who I witnessed killing a chicken and he was immediately and severely reprimanded , following that I would spend time in the yard with him with the chicken out and growl at him every time he moved towards them or even looked at them side ways. Over time he learnt that chooks are friends not food, before he was put down I could leave him and the chooks in the same yard unsupervised all day with no problems, I supposed he understood that they were part of the family.

I don't recommend this but I have also heard that hanging a dead animal around the dog’s neck so they can't remove it while it rots will deter dogs from that type of animal. I know of people who stoped their pig dogs from chasing roos this way but it seems a bit cruel and a lot messy/smelly to me.

My wife is a really good dog trainer and has trained our dogs well so I think this behaviour is a one off, but Im not going to risk it again. The poultry will be getting their own permanent runs. I'll post some different build threads on this.

I hope you have better luck than us. We have a German Shepherd who will take birds especially chicks and ducklings. Yet he will also share his kennel with some chooks and allow certain chooks to sit on his head.

We have tried the size 12 diversion tactic and that works for a while but I reckon it is always in their nature so it is up to us to keep him away from them when we aren't there by chaining him up or locking up the birds away. Dogs are dogs and will never say no to a meal.

I can recommend a hotwire around the bottom of the pen, it has kept the dog, a mate's dog and so far the foxes out

We also have 5 acres and the same mower/trailer, but a very different climate!
