Who here has an ATV?
Or maybe a UTV?
Do you use it for work or play? Both?

Heres mine, Its just a little Suzuki LT160. It's way too small for me but does the job.
It came with the property when I bought it.

Cant wait to get a descent size bike. Between 400 and 650cc should do it. :wink:

We have a Honda TRX 400 FA. It was the top of the range Honda when we bought it four years ago. It's essential to much of the work around the farm although we also have a New Holland TT 55 tractor for the heavy work.

The quad bike is used by DH for getting around the farm, eg when flood irrigating, rounding up stock, etc. I use it with its trailer for collecting llama poo from the paddocks, transporting stuff, eg, weeds or lawn clippings to the compost heap and we sometimes use it (illegally since it's not registered) to go to the end of the road to pick up mail and newspapers. :wink:

Three of us have used it to visit the neighbours (two riding side-saddle on the back).

Wouldn't be without it. :thunbs:

I don;t have one because I don't have enough of a yard yet??

Are the quads unstable at all? I had heard through a friend that they were easy to tip, I think he meant wheelie style. But then he is a dirt bike rider and he's probably biased.

It really depends on the Quad EB.

My quad is very easy to tip as it is quite narrow and the front has a smaller track than the rear because of the difference in tire size. I find it fun because I can do all sorts of tricks on it when playing around. :rock:

My mate has a much larger quad that has a wide track and it is almost impossible to overturn, if you are being sensible that is! :devil:

But at the end of the day, you can overturn anything depending on your riding style and the terrain you are taking it through - Take it from someone who has had Broken Fingers, Snapped Wrist, Shattered Right Leg and Broken Ribs! All from bikes!

I have a Can Am 650cc two seater, not for my yard though, huge 60hp 2 cylinder Rotax engine 0-100kmh within about 75mts, have access to others through work, the new 800cc is 71hp and is doing 100kmh in about 40 - 50mts and when you take off you have to lean forward to keep it down, don't know why you need them so fast for chasing sheep :dunno:

but seriously farmers use them for towing 400lt spray units, fuel tanks and small farm equipment as well

They will tip if you are not careful, the big problem is that when they do there is a much higher risk of death and serious spinal cord injury as they tend to roll on top of people and crush them. Normal 2 wheel motor bikes are much safer than ATVs for yahooing as they tend to throw you off, but for a farm the 4 wheel ones are so much more versitile.

but depends on what you buy, we trialed the Can Am's against a couple of well known brands on a track, a couple of the others I couldn't even half throttle and feel safe, depends on wheel base and suspension a lot, but basically you get what you pay for

DH has managed to tip our quad bike, on a hill with the Landmark lady riding side-saddle on the back. She was able to jump off, but he fell backwards and the bike landed on top of him. Fortunately few injuries, apart from his dignity, that a few stitches wouldn't fix. :blackeye:
