Horsemeat is not a taboo in Europe but I had it only once in S. America.
Didn’t recognise it and was told only two days later :confused:

Had kangaroo few time in a restaurant, don’t mind to try something new, but is there a different way to prepare it than a steak?
A while ago I was given few pieces of roo meat that I smoked in the Mexican chimney, my DW boiled it afterward and it turned out quite tasty.

We eat roo like beef.

Steaks, curry, minced then Spag Bog, Lasagne, meatballs etc etc.

I asked the local butcher if he will be stocking pony meat but he isn't too keen due to the death threats etc.

Buy the fillets - great cuts of meat. Dunno if you can get it in Vic, but you can certainly find Macro Meats products in certain supermarkets in Sth Aust and West Aust.

They're white though ?
The Pitjantjatjara people in central Aust are eating a lot of feral cat now and they love it, according to an ecologist friend of mine who works up there frequently !

Horse meat is very popular in France and dog is eaten through out China, Korea and Vietnam. Guinie pig is eaten in certain countries in South America and is now being eaten in Australia but not in main stream eating houses.

Funny thing is that they had a Show on SBS and a bloke was in a private house in South America being served G P. the home owners had a rabbit and he asked if they ate rabbit and the reply was, Eat rabbit No rabbits are pets and you do not eat pets.

I ate barbequed horse in Paris about 25 years ago.
I didn't know at the time, thought it was beef as the Italians cooking it didn't speak English

Horse is pretty good. I ate it a few times when I was living in Germany (where it was called "pferd" on the menu) mostly as steaks or sausages. It's not any different than beef really and I couldn't tell a difference. I say, if you can get it from a reliable source and ignore all they crybaby types that can't get over the horse = pet mindset, go for it.
