Just looking worse and worse here in W.A. for water this year, here's the scary bar graphs. http://www.watercorporation.com.au/R/rainfall.cfm

Lower than average rainfall for autumn.
Less than half our average winter rainfall.
Less than two months to go till summer and spring rainfall is very low, with nothing on the horizon yet...

If we don;t get some major rain in the next 2 months, we will end up with only just over half our average rainfall for the year.. And the population and industry has been increasing..

Faye is off to a meeting tomorrow, the water corp is having everyone from the horticultural society come to a special breakfast so that they can talk about the water problems.

If water restrictions continue, it would be great time to promote AP...

Sometimes this water restrictions thing really shits me....Fair enough that we are lacking water so everyone should do their bit, but when you see a standpipe at a rather big mine in Kalgoorlie tapped straight into the mains water and being used to water the roads it makes you wonder :dont:

Thats why I reckon they need to pump the price right up, too bloody cheap for people like them, they don't care coz it costs hardly anything.....

I find the blanket bans the most frustrating. How about bans on lawns and ornamental gardens and allowing productive gardens to still be watered more frequently. Productive gardens have far more environmental benefit than the negative of the water used.

Guess my next few beds will definitely be wicking beds............ topped up from my ATU system :thumb:

Yeah Burnsy, I agree on the blanket bans - my place is either natives or productive garden (except for the bamboo). Fortunately the ATU allows us to pretty much water most of the property, otherwise we'd be stuffed.

have a look at josh burn's stuff he does in around freo / hammy hill. his company (i think josh burns and associates) consults on installs of water wise and minimal watering native and vegie gardens, some really neat ideas :)
