Howdy guys, a quick side note about my last post.

I have now learned my lesson about having an exotic gardening system and for the next set up I will do more planning as to a water pump, reservoir and timer system.

It is all in the planning and preparation.

I actually meant it when I said I'm fine though, I just didn't want to alarm anyone with the word 'hospital'. however, due to a form of 'incapacitation' the chickens and my rabbit have had to go to other homes (the chickens are for eggs, not for eating I told them!).

I will be picking your brains soon due to the fact that my next batch of seeds will go into the ground/grow medium at the end of our summer so advice will be sought on veggies, hazards and timings.

What is your climate like there? Will help me figure out what to recommend for end of summer planting. (Where I am most people let gardens go fallow in summer as the heat is just too much and many people don't know what would grow in it.)
Spring and fall are really productive times and then winter is wonderful and the primary time for all the cool weather crops lettuce and greens etc.

Regarding the temperatures over winter and the conditions. I will have plastic greenhouses made up for the cold periods and rain (rare to go below freezing!) - ready for emergencies will be heaters to stop ground frost, set to come on over night every hour for 5 mins, just to take the nip out of the air inside the greenhouses.

Or am I being paranoid, due to the fact that a solid frozen ground is unheard of!

To be honest I will be trying the whole range of crops again over winter, but if you say to focus on something then there will be more of that crop.

Hoping watercress is a cool weather crop - must be to grow wild in the UK!

as long as you dont freeze solid and air temps at night are above 0c a green house or high tunnel would give you year around seasons. i would think that you would not require much heat.
