Hi Faye its best not to bother them too much in the first week or so, and from my experience if you have to touch the kittens to put them back into nest ect. Always rub your hand on mums back to pick up her scent ( bunnies can be protective of the kits and will sometimes kill them if you handle them to often to early). well done on your first effort.

Thanks Haznoshadow. We were careful not to touch the young ones, but went in when we had to, as 4 didn't make it, there looks to be a healthy eight left though. They have a layer of fur, spend lots of time sleeping, (I can tell, cause their eyes are closed lol) Just kidding, their eyese haven't opened yet silly. It is soo much fun, thanks to the Peasants for the breeding pair and for leading the way. I'm loving this whole process, just hope the fun keeps up. Joel and Peter and visitors to the shop are loving it too. :joy:

Sorry some didn't make it...that tends to happen when there are too many :sad2:

So glad you are enjoying it though, it is rewarding!

GDAY  from over here on the eastcoast Faye, wondering if you have any progress photos of your bunnies.I see you have talked Joel into keeping some at BYAP headquarters. If not for such a long road trip i would have loved to have a look around the shop. :sad2: maybe one day

This photo must have been from a couple of weeks ago as there still looks to be plenting of room in the hutch. Once they came out and started hopping around and eating they began to grow at a much faster rate. They are just eating machines now.

This week it became very evident that they needed more space and so the construction began on Friday afternoon.

We picked up 4 flyscreen security doors, 3 free and 1 for $10- bargain. For the time being a bird net cover that is hinged with cable ties on a pvc pipe frame acts as a lid. Peter and Joel knocked it up in a couple of hours. The base is wire mesh covered with sand, a couple of chook nest boxes, some hay and a new water container to try and cut down the maintenance and feeding times. The beautiful wyandotte rooster from Fizzyj has made an appearance to see what all the fuss is about. They get let out in the late afternoon to free range and wander back in to their aviary just before sunset. The channel of water in the background is home to some newly hatched tadpoles woohoo! Sign of a healthy ecosystem.

Bonnie and Joker checking out the new home, the bunnies love it as they are able to play hide and seek, hop around, dig and play in a not so confined environment.

Looks like I forgot to take a photo from the top looking in. Oh well still to come.
The whole thing is going well and we have 7 healthy rabbits. Found out this week City Farmers are selling rabbits for $90-00 each :sad2:

Hey there Haznoshadow  I have taken lots of photos, but missed putting them up.
They are easier to look after at the shop because they get tended to very regularly. Noone in my house is supportive of eating and killing rabbits, so it is best they do not get close to them. The shop is turning in to a Backyard Farm, huh what a surprise. Talking Joel into keeping rabbits at the shop was not hard after cooking up a Jamie Oliver roast rabbit in the pizza oven :thumb:

Great photos Faye and they look so healthy, I am lucky everybody in my family loves to eat rabbit especially my 2yr old son.Its funny how people can eat chicken and fish, but not something cute n fluffy. I have the same problem here none of my mates will touch rabbit no matter how I cook it.

Though I'm yet to see him doing the job with the right girls, he's been going for the isa browns, but not the wyandottes.
