Ahhhh, I was wondering what you meant at first... Na, between the layers you will notice that there about a 80mm gap, we will be sliding poo trays in here.... Or should I say, fertilizer collection units.

Well today is day 18 and there is no sign of anything happening :sad2:
I did have a dream that I could see lots of pairs of little feet, so hopefully that is a good omen as often my dreams come true :)

What's the chain for?
How many couples will it hold in the tower?
Will there be anything on the floors? sawdust or something?
Will the eggs roll to the front is the floor sloped?

all these questions as it looks fantastic and is definitely on my to do list

Well done and good luck

Well the sounds of cheep, cheep, cheep are ringing out from the incubator from inside their tiny little eggs. I have heard the voices. Can't be long soon. Well the whole project is well over $1000-00 and this morning I was concerned we may have it may have all been a learning curve. But alas the voices in my head are the real thing :joy: :joy:

How many couples will it hold in the tower? Depends how many hatch.
Will there be anything on the floors? sawdust or something? Nothing on the floor, wire is best for them.
Will the eggs roll to the front is the floor sloped? The floor is not sloped.

The chain is the middle support for each layer of the cage, nice and easy to clamp the mesh onto chain links. How many couples will it hold? Well, when you read about stocking densities for Japanese quail, you can have up to around 70 on each level. That would be up to about 280 in the whole set up.. :scared2: We'll be very lightly stocked... :)

I looked into sloping the flood but decided against it, we can always slope the whole unit if need be. The mesh will be the floor but there will be a container of sand in each cage for them to bath in when they want to.

Nerve racking though and a mega investment, but it is fun and real life, cutting edge stuff (for us at least) :)

No 1 is running around trying to get everyone else to come and play, no 2 is out and rolling around and number three is tumbling around in its shell, but gees it is a slow process. Do you want to see more pics?

Well so far it looks like there are about 8 hatched. They are funny because as soon as you open the lid, one will run towards the opening. They scramble across the tops of the other eggs, tripping over and they don't seem to have a lot of balance yet. :D Thank goodness we have had some hatch, it is a relief.

Looks good, I'm still planning on setting up a Japanese quail enclosure on my block. Just need to find some spare time from work :(
